Our All In NYC: Embracing Diversity webinar series creates space for honest conversation that uplifts diverse voices, shares the lived experience of New Yorkers of all ethnicities, promotes allyship and accountability within NYC & Company and our membership, and builds meaningful alliances across our industry.
In the first five editions of this series, we focused on Black travel and Black experiences within NYC. For our sixth episode, we will highlight New York City’s Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, whose rich and diverse culture is integral to the character of the five boroughs. In this webinar, we will address the rise in Anti-Asian hate crimes and violence, and discuss how the tourism and hospitality industry can offer support. (Note: this edition will replace "Where Do We Go from Here?," the webinar originally scheduled to be the sixth in the series.)
The event will begin with a discussion between Nancy Yao Maasbach, President of the Museum of Chinese in America, and Wellington Chen, Executive Director, Chinatown Partnership. Following, NYC & Company’s Makiko Matsuda Healy will moderate a conversation about the recent attacks, the history of anti-AAPI sentiment in the US and how the industry can respond, with Greg Takehara, CEO, Tourism Cares; Susan Chin, Principal, DesignConnects; and Gloria Lan, President, Tour America. Finally, learn about Flushing, Queens, a bustling New York City neighborhood with vibrant Asian culture and more, from John Choe, Executive Director of the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce.
